Sign-up sheet with time slots
A lot of sign-ups are really a calendar with gaps in it. Conferences, interviews, music lessons, open studios, bake sale shifts, photo sessions. You know the hours and how long each turn is. What you need is a sheet that splits the hours into slots, lets each person take one, and never lets two people take the same one.

Type the hours, not every slot
Writing out "10:00, 10:20, 10:40..." by hand is how sign-up sheets end up with a typo at 11:40. In Dibs you type the block and the length:
- "Sat 10:00am-1:00pm every 20 min" makes nine slots
- "Sun 2-4pm every 20 min x2" makes six slots that hold two people each
You can still rename, delete or lock individual slots after, if you need a lunch break or want to hold one back.
Choosing a slot length
Think about the longest normal visit, not the average one. Fifteen minutes suits a parent conference or a quick meeting. Twenty or thirty suits lessons, interviews and anything with a handover. If visits often run over, add a five-minute gap after every few slots rather than making every slot longer.
One per slot, or a few
A slot limit of one is right for anything private: meetings, conferences, interviews. A higher limit works when people come together, such as a tour group of six, a dance call of twelve, or two volunteers per shift. The limit is per slot, so you can mix both on one sheet.
Privacy
For appointments, show booked slots as "taken" rather than with names. People only need to see what is free. You see every name on your dashboard and can export a CSV.
What to ask
Keep it short. One question that helps you prepare ("What would you like to cover?") is worth more than five that people skip. Add a phone number field only if you will really call.
Reminders and changes
People forget appointments made two weeks ago. Dibs sends a reminder before each slot by email, with the person's own link to move or cancel. When someone cancels, the slot opens again, and anyone on its waitlist gets an email.
Sharing
Share the link by email or chat, embed it on a page, or print a QR code for a poster. The booking page is small and loads fast on a weak signal, which matters when people tap it from inside a messaging app.
A ready list
The starter text above sets up a Saturday of single 20-minute slots and a Sunday afternoon of paired slots. Change the days and hours to fit, and paste it into Dibs. People book from a phone with no account and no ads.
Sign-up sheet with time slots: questions
How do I make a sign-up sheet with time slots?
Type the day, the hours and the slot length, such as 'Sat 10am-1pm every 20 min'. Dibs splits it into slots. Add 'x2' if two people can share each slot.
Can more than one person book the same time slot?
Yes, if you want. Each slot has its own limit. Set it to 1 for appointments, or higher for things like a tour group or a dance call.
How do I stop double-booking?
Each claim is checked against the limit at the moment it is made, so two people tapping the last slot at the same second cannot both get it. The second person is offered the waitlist or another time.
Do people need an account to book a slot?
No. They pick a time, type a name and email, and get a confirmation with a calendar file and a link to move or cancel.
Can I print the schedule?
Yes. The print view lays the slots out like a clipboard sheet, with names on the lines, for the door or the front desk.
